Constant Omari Selemani, the First Vice-President of the Confederation of African Football and member of the FIFA Council was on air on Sunday, 19 January 2020. During the program dubbed “Le débat africain” presented by Alain Foka and broadcasted by Radio France International (RFI), the Congolese football administrator declared that CAF has never contacted any other country or Football Federation to hold AFCON 2021 apart from Cameroon.

“We had an important meeting with the Cameroonian authorities (yesterday). Following this gathering, CAF’s President disclosed that Cameroon will host AFCON 2021. CAF does not have a Plan B”, he said.

Within the framework of this Mission, CAF and the Cameroonian government signed the Agreement which will frame this outfit. Moreover, he said, “I conducted the last inspection mission to Cameroon. We visited sports infrastructures in Yaoundé, Douala, Garoua and Bafoussam and I can admit that when it comes to sports infrastructures, that is, the stadiums, Cameroon is 99% ready”. The remaining problem concerns access to stadia, Constant Omari added. The heavy downpour did not allow scrupulous respect of the timing of road construction and rehabilitation. In Garoua for instance, works of the main hotel are to be finalized, in Yaoundé, the great Olembé stadium is also to be completed, he disclosed.”
