Conflicts and Coups Dominate 2024 African Union Summit, in Addis Ababa
The 44th Ordinary Session of the African Union Executive Council takes place, this Wednesday (14 FEB) , an event that precedes the 37th Ordinary Session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the AU which will consider a report on the activities of the organization's Security Council (SPC) and the state of peace and security in Africa.
The agenda of the 37th ordinary session of the African Union will have major reflections on the situation of coups and conflicts on the continent.
The crisis in the Sahel and the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo have dominated the topics of the sideline meetings leading up to the summit and other important issues, such as the free trade zone, food insecurity (accentuated by war in Ukraine) or the combating climate change.
Angola intends to assume the presidency of the African Union in 2025, the process of which received support from SADC member countries.
The summit of heads of state and government, between 17 and 18 February 2024, will consider a report on the activities of the organization's Security Council (SPC) and the state of peace and security in Africa, as well as a strategic document on governance global political, financial and energy, to be presented by Senegalese President, Macky Sall.
This Wednesday (14 FEB) the 44th Ordinary Session of the AU Executive Council takes place, an event that precedes the 37th Ordinary Session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the African Union.
According to the established agenda, the AU Executive Council meets to make an assessment of the Report of the Committee of Permanent Representatives (COREP), which comprises the reports of the 15 Specialized Technical Committees (STCs) and Subcommittees and will adopt the complicated report and the respective draft decisions.
