AUB to carry Media audience survey of Afcon 2019
Statistical data on competition ratings and other events of international significance are sorely lacking, most of the time, on the African continent. In an attempt to give an answer to this preoccupation, the African Union of Broadcasting will carry an audience survey of African television channels who have acquired the rights to broadcast the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).
In order to fulfill this important mission, the Union has called for Kantar Tns, the world leader in Data Studies and Counsel, specialized in surveys, opinion and marketing.
According to the Director General of the AUB, Grégoire Ndjaka, the availability of data on sports events in Africa is worrisome, yet these data constitute an important lever of development, reason why this initiative is welcomed by the Union.
Kantar Tns' strategy will therefore focus on the audience shares of each television channel and their place in consumption. Clearly, Kantar will ensure coverage throughout the competition to know precisely the part of the population who has followed each match and what media and television channels have been privileged.
At the end of the study, the AUB should be able to know what is the coverage of the different stages of the 2019 Afcon, how many spectators will have watched the matches, which are the best performing broadcasters and with which targets, Mrs. Evelyne Faye, the AUB’s Head of the Department of Marketing, explained.
The African Union of Broadcasting’s Media audience survey will target a population aged 15 and above who will have regularly watched the Afcon encounters in more than ten countries. The study will cover the period from June 21st to July 25th, 2019.
