AUB pays tribute to Babacar Touré
“We are so sorry to hear about the passing away of Babacar Touré, a patriarch in the African press milieu. We got to know the deceased when he was the Director of the National Audiovisual Regulatory Council (CNRA) when CAF and Lagardère Sports group were threatening to suspend the signal to RTS because it was hacked by a neighboring country.
Mr. Babacar Touré took it upon himself to find a solution to this dispute so that Senegalese viewers could calmly watch AFCON encounters. He immediately began negotiations and solicited the intervention President Macky Sall for this purpose. Later, he told us that the Presidency of the Republic had decided to pay for Senegal and this neighboring country. For us, it was a great relief. With him, we kept good relations until his departure at the head of the CNRA. His death is a great loss for the Senegalese press in particular, and for Africa in general, because his stature far exceeded the circle of Senegal. He fought the good fight. May his soul rest in peace ",
