73rd elective FIFA Congress: the AUB Delegation in Kigali
A five-man Delegation headed by the president of the AUB’s Exe Co. took part in the 73rd elective Congress of the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). The event held in Rwanda’s Capital Kigali, from 14th to 16th March, 2023.
Gianni Infantino Re-elected FIFA President for a Period of 4 years
The 73rd FIFA Congress taking place in Kigali, Rwanda’s capital has re-elected Infantino Gianni as the new president of the global football body for a period of four years thus extending his regime to 2027
Infantino was elected unopposed.
However, the flagship information at the Congress is the confirmation of the new format of World Cup 2026 in which 48 teams are expected to participate.
President Paul Kagamé and Gianni Infantino inaugurated the Kigali Pele Stadium
The President of Rwanda, HE Paul Kagame and the FIFA boss Gianni Infantino presided over the inauguration of the Kigali Pele Stadium in memory of the Brazilian Football legend, Pele.
The event that happened on Wednesday, March 15 was part of the activities of the 73rd FIFA Congress which took place in Kigali, Rwanda.
Over 2000 delegates from a number of football stakeholders across the globe participated in the event. They included member associations, top officials from all confederations and FIFA officials.
At the Congress, Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka were suspended from all FIFA competitions. The suspensions are as a result of political interference in the football associations activities of the respective countries.
The FIFA Congress is the supreme legislative body of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), the international governing body of associations of football, futsal and beach soccer.
