Andy McElroy (GCF) to Bring Climate Finance Expertise to the AUB Summit on Climate Change
Andy McElroy is the Media Senior Specialist at the Green Climate Fund (GCF), based in the Republic of Korea. GCF, the world’s largest multilateral climate fund, is the central financing mechanism of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. It has committed US$16 billion in funding to 286 adaptation and mitigation projects in 133 countries. At GCF, Andy is responsible for leading media engagement and the development of media-related partnerships at the international, regional, and national media.
Before GCF, Andy worked for the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) for 11.5 years based in Korea, Fiji, Thailand, and Switzerland. He held various roles, including coordinating the Making Cities Resilient 2030 global initiative, leading UNDRR in the Pacific region, guiding private sector engagement in Asia, training local and national government counterparts on disaster risk reduction planning (global), and publishing news stories (global).
He previously worked for the International Federation of Red Cross Societies for 12.5 years in several countries (mainly Middle East, North Africa, and Asia) and as a newspaper journalist for 14 years, mostly in Australia.
Andy is a British and Australian national and holds an MA in post-war reconstruction and development from the University of York, UK.
Andy McElroy will be a featured speaker at the 2nd Media Summit on Climate Change, a key event within the 2025 World Radio Day celebrations. The summit, taking place February 13–14, is organized by the African Union of Broadcasting (UAR) in partnership with the Senegalese Radio and Television (RTS), the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), and the Senegalese Ministry of Environment.
