1st PRIZE TV

Title of the Production: Mo on the Move - A Trip to Tulo Tulo

Country: NIGERIA

The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) wins the first Prize of the very first Edition of the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB) Media Awards for the year 2022-2023 (TV Documentary).

The Award was handed over to the NTA Boss by the Algerian Minister of Communication, Mr. Mohamed Bouslimani during the 14th Ordinary Session of the AUB's General Assembly held in Abuja, Nigeria, from 16 to 20 May, 2023.

The Documentary titled: "MO ON THE MOVE- A TRIP TO TULO - TULO" by NTA’s Documentary, depicts the many faces of the locality of Tulo-Tulo, in the State of Yobe.

Also known as “The Desert Land of Hope”, Tulo-Tulowa is located in Yusufari LGA of the Yobe State and it is a mushy oasis with abundant water in a low valley providing magnificent picturesque view in the desert. “Tulo-Tulo” simply means marshy land with abundant water.

Tulo-Tulo came into existence about a century ago when nomadic rearers from Geidam Local Government migrated there in search of greener pastures. The settlement is located near an OASIS on the Desert Island, and about 105km north of Nguru at the desert fingers bordering the Republic of Niger. The village has other Oasis with reddish undulating landscape, giving it magnificent picturesque scenery. Tulo-Tulowa is endowed with fertile soil and rich mineral resources. Potash, which is also known as black salt (Kanwa) is available in commercial quantities. Camel caravans could be seen conveying potash to Geidam and Gashua to be exchanged for food stuff. It recalls to memory the ancient Trans-Saharan Trade. Accessibility to Tulo-Tulowa is by 4-wheel drive vehicles.

But, in recent years, the local population have been witnessing profound changes in the locality....

Title of the production: Drugs in Schools- From Fashion to Addiction/ Drogue à l’école, de la mode à l’addiction

Country: CAMEROON

The Cameroon Radio Television (CRTV) wins the Second Prize of the very first Edition of the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB)'s Media Awards for the year 2022-2023 (TV Documentary).

The Award was handed over to the Deputy Director General of CRTV by the Director General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) during the 14th Ordinary Session of the AUB's General Assembly held in Abuja, Nigeria, from 16 to 20 May, 2023.

The production, presents the many consequences of the phenomen in school milieu and social life. The consequences of drug use among students in schools can be significant and far-reaching, affecting not only the individuals themselves but also their families, friends, and the broader community. Some of the potential consequences of drug use among students in schools include: Health problems: Drug use can lead to a range of health problems, including addiction, overdose, and long-term damage to the brain and other organs. Academic performance: Lower grades, absenteeism, and even dropping out of school. Behavioral problems: Aggression, delinquency, and risky sexual behavior. Legal issues: Arrest, detention, and criminal charges. Social consequences: Strained relationships with family and friends, as well as difficulties finding and maintaining employment. In addition to these consequences, drug use among students can also contribute to a range of broader social problems, including drug-related crime, health care costs, and lost productivity.

Title of the Production: When Water is not Water - the deadly water of Kasese

Country: UGANDA

The African Institute for Investigative Journalism wins the 3rd Prize of the very first Edition of the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB)'s Media Awards for the year 2022-2023 (Investigative TV Prod).

The Award was received during the 14th Ordinary Session of the AUB's General Assembly held in Abuja, Nigeria, from 16 to 20 May, 2023.

The author of the production is a resident of Kasese himself. He went on a lengthy investigative journey that affirmed that the residents are exposed to heavy metals as a result of Copper, Aluminium, and Zinc among others that have contaminated the mother water source, River Nyamwamba leading to disastrous diseases such as cancer.

Country: BENIN

The Office de Radiotélévision du Bénin (ORTB) wins the first Prize of the very first Edition of the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB)'s Media Awards for the year 2022-2023 (Radio Documentary).

The Award was handed over to the ORTB Representative by Mr. Jean-Marc Belchi of France Medias Monde (FMM) during the 14th Ordinary Session of the AUB's General Assembly held in Abuja, Nigeria, from 16 to 20 May, 2023.

AWARD PRIZE: 3 000 USD

Title of the Production: Cancer, a silent killer.... / Le cancer du col de l'utérus, tueur silencieux dans le bidonville de Yaho Sehi

Country: COTE d’IVOIRE

The Ivorian National Radiotelevision (RTI) wins the 2nd Prize of the very first Edition of the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB)'s Media Awards for the year 2022-2023 (Radio Magazine).

The Award was handed over to the RTI’s Representative by Mr. Mohsine Karim Slimani, Director General of the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU)’s Center of News and Program Exchange, during the 14th Ordinary Session of the AUB's General Assembly held in Abuja, Nigeria, from 16 to 20 May, 2023.

AWARD PRIZE: 2 000 USD

Country: ALGERIA

The Algerian National Radio (RA) wins the 3rd Prize of the very first Edition of the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB)'s Media Awards for the year 2022-2023 (Radio Magazine).

The Award was handed over to the RA Boss, Mr. Mohamed Baghali by Mrs Beatrice Yuga of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) during the 14th Ordinary Session of the AUB's General Assembly held in Abuja, Nigeria, from 16 to 20 May, 2023.

AWARD PRIZE: 1 000 USD

SPECIAL PRIZE NEW MEDIA

Title of the Production: Broken Silence - Harassment in Professional Milieu in Conakry / Silence brisé, le harcèlement en milieu professionnel, à Conakry

Country: GUINEA

The ONG TV wins the special Prize of the very first Edition of the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB)'s Media Awards for the year 2022-2023 (New Media).

The Award was handed over to his Representative by the Rep of Mr. Raymond THSEKO, Director General of the Department of Broadcasting Services (DBS- Botswana) during the 14th Ordinary Session of the AUB's General Assembly held in Abuja, Nigeria, from 16 to 20 May, 2023

Saa Joseph KADOUNO, the author, is an Independent Image Reporter Journalist (JRI) and the Communication Officer for an NGO dedicated to the Protection and the woman and the girl child in Guinea (PFFG). He is also a Trainer in the fight agains Human Trafficking at the National Committee for the Fight against Human Trafficking and Similar Practices.
