Meet Professor Cheikh Mbow at the 2nd AUB-UNDRR-RTS Summit on Climate Change
Professor Cheikh Mbow will deliver an inaugural lecture at the 2nd Media Summit on Climate Change, held as part of the 2025 World Radio Day celebrations. The summit is organized by the African Union of Broadcasting (UAR) in partnership with the Senegalese Radio and Television (RTS) and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR).
Who is Prof. Cheikh Mbow?
A leading expert in his field, Professor Cheikh Mbow serves as the Director General of the Ecological Monitoring Center (CSE) in Senegal and also holds an Associate Professorship at Michigan State University (USA).
He previously served as Director of the Future Africa Institute at the University of Pretoria, Executive Director of START-International in Washington DC-USA, and Senior Scientist at the World Agroforestry Center (ICRAF).
Over the past 25 years, Mbow has been active in research and development on natural resources in Africa.
He created and coordinated the GOFC-GOLD (Global Observation of Forests and Land Cover Dynamics) Regional Network and served as Lead Expert for the World Atlas of Desertification (WAD).
He is a lead author of the IPCC (AR-5 and AR-6) on the chapter on agriculture, forestry, and other land uses, and he coordinated the IPCC Special Report on Food Security.
He has served on numerous scientific committees such as Future Earth (2013-15) and the Agropolis-France Foundation. He has published numerous articles on various sustainable development issues, including transdisciplinary science on food security and sustainable production in Africa. His work focuses on land and natural resource 1 management, food security, and climate change.
