Namibia hosts 9th Africa Regional Platform on Disaster Risk Reduction AfRP-9
Stakeholders from across Africa and beyond are in Windhoek, Namibia for the Ninth Session of the Africa Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (AfRP-9) and the Eighth High-Level Meeting on Disaster Risk Reduction under the theme “Act Now for the Resilient Africa We Want”.
The two events are hosted by the Government of the Republic of Namibia and are being organized by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction and the African Union Commission in collaboration with the Southern African Development Community.
The Africa Regional Platform on Disaster Risk Reduction seeks to build a consensus on the way forward to enable Member States to deliver on their commitments to the Sendai Framework and the Programme of Action for its implementation in Africa, thereby contributing to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want.
Preparatory events are already in progress with special sessions including Early Warnings for All Multi-Stakeholder Forum for Africa, Pre-Conference Stakeholder Consultations, Southern Africa-Indian Ocean Disaster Preparedness Workshop and launch of the Handbook on Early Warning in Fragile Contexts.
