The African Union of Broadcasting, a bridge between continents

On January 20, 2025, the African Union of Broadcasting, AUB Content Exchange Center, headed by Karima Chelbi, received an unexpected visit from media professionals from diverse backgrounds in Algiers. The meeting focused on the challenges of international cooperation in the broadcast sector. The visiting delegation included Juan Carlos Isaza, Director of the Latin American Information Alliance (AIL), Giacomo Mazzone, former Head of Public Relations at the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and Olivier Zegna Rata, founder of Afrik.com.

The discussions coordinated by the Deputy Director of the AUB Content Exchange Center, Gisèle Nnemi Nga, highlighted the crucial issue of the cross-border circulation of content. In a globalized world where information is shared at the speed of light, what happens in Africa is of interest to audiences around the world, and vice versa.

Participants explored ways to strengthen this international cooperation to enrich broadcast programs and foster better mutual understanding between cultures. They highlighted the many advantages of co-production, which not only allows for pooling resources, accessing new markets, enriching the cultural diversity of programs, but also stimulates creative innovation.

The Algiers meeting is part of a broader dynamic of the African Union of Broadcasting aimed at strengthening Africa's presence on the global media scene. The signing of a partnership agreement in 2024 between the African Union of Broadcasting represented by its Director General, Grégoire Ndjaka and the Latin American Information Alliance represented by its Director Juan Carlos Isaza, is evidence of this ambition. On this occasion, the DG of the AUB, Grégoire Ndjaka, stressed the need to break down the walls that exist between Africa and Latin America in order to build bridges between the continents. Since then, the partnership between the AUB and AIL has allowed the two organizations to share daily information on current topics such as migration, environment, economy, politics, sports, science and culture, thus strengthening the ties between the two peoples through their content exchange platforms AUBVISION and AIL Unidos Por La Noticia.
