The Five Countries that will represent Africa at the 2022 FIFA World Cup



1- Senegal

Before 2022, Senegal have appeared in the finals of the FIFA World Cup on two occasions : 2002 and 2018.

Senegal advanced to the quater-finals of the 2002 FIFA World Cup becoming the second team from Africa (behind Cameroon in 1990). The Teranga Lions managed to upset defending world champions France, draw with Denmark and Uruguay and beat Sweden in extra-time in the round of 16, before losing to Turkey in the quater-finals.


2- Morocco

Morocco have now qualified for the final stages of the FIFA World Cup on six occasions : 1970, 1986, 1994, 1998, 2018 and 2022.

Their best result came in 1986 when they were the first and the only African national team to finish top of a group at the FIFA World Cup. That year, in Group F, Morocco finished ahead of England, Portugal and Poland after holding both Poland and England to goalless draws, and beating Portugal 3–1.


3- Cameroon

Cameroon has qualified eight times for the FIFA World Cup, more than any other African team : 1982, 1990, 1994, 1998, 2002, 2010, 2014 and 2022. However, the team has only made it once out of the group stage. They were the first African team to reach the quarter-final of the FIFA World Cup in 1990, losing to England in exra-time.


4- Ghana

Ghana have qualified for four FIFA World Cup tournaments : 2006, 2010, 2014,2022 In 2006 they were the only African side to advance to the second Round and had the youngest team with an average of 23 years and 352 days. In 2010, Ghana reached the quater-finals where they were eliminated by Uruguay. In 2014 in Brazil, the Black Stars were eliminated during group stages.


5- Tunisia

Tunisia have appeared in the finals of the FIFA Worl Cup on five occasions and on 29 March, 2022, Tunisia are going to the Qatar World FIFA Cup 2022 for the second time in a row (and their 6th overall), the first being at the 1978 FIFA WC where they finished in ninth position.

Between 1998 and 2006 they had a streak of three World Cup qualifications. They have made their fifth appearance at the finals in 2018, in Russia.

However, Tunisia has never been able to progress from the group stage in all occasions. Let's hope for the best, anyway!
